It is important to measure tower earth resistanceto design and determine the lightning 
protection performance of the transmission lines and to protect high voltage substation 
equipment. The TT1000 is a test meter that is simple to use and is designed to measure the 
earth resistance of steel transmission towers or steel poles. If the towers have a lightning 
shield wire then this does not need disconnection since the TT1000 operates at a high 
frequency. This results in the shield wire appearing as a high impedance and means the 
influence of parallel towers or poles is avoided.
